About

VERA SACRA (Emily Marks) is a producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist from Sheffield, based in London.A classically trained cellist, her songs elegantly strike a balance between modern, deconstructed dance and neoclassical influences. VERA SACRA has played venues across London including Windmill Brixton, Next Door Records, Corsica Studios and Venue MOT as well as gigs across the country at Belgrave Music Hall (Leeds) and Sidney & Matilda (Sheffield). Her live shows involve intricate arrangements of live electronics, cello and vocals with a dreamy, ambient yet dance-influenced sound. As a DJ she enjoys dark, deep and minimal sounds spanning techno, electro, house and more.After attracting support from BBC Introducing in Sheffield for her acoustic songs, Emily decided to embark on a new musical turn in 2019 as VERA SACRA after dreaming up the name one day in Vienna inspired by an art magazine there. VERA SACRA was chosen as a Launchpad supported artist in 2021-22, receiving funding and mentoring towards releasing an EP. Since moving to London for university she has been involved in the student radio scene and has interned in radio production with Foundation.FM while continuing to finish new music alongside her studies which she hopes to release soon .As a session cellist and vocalist, Emily has collaborated with artists such as fellow Sheffielder Yarni, with songs she worked on featuring on BBC Radio 6, Worldwide FM, Group Therapy and Spotify’s Fresh Finds Dance playlist.For fans of: Portishead, Art School Girlfriend, Jockstrap, Oklou, London Grammar
